Hopeless is about Cancer. Originally called “Deathgrips” the lyrics explore the mind of a terminal cancer patient, knowing that death is just around the corner. The subject of the lyrics feels hopeless because they know that any of the procedures, treatments, or “miracle cures” are going to do nothing to change the outcome. The heavy subject matter required a heavy breakdown. This bones of this song were written in a single jam session - this is a rare occurrence as most void matter songs take their shape in the studio.
lyrics
I can feel it in my veins.
Break me down, this cancer grows inside,
it makes me paralysed, the reaper takes his scythe,
I’m way too young to die, it’s eating me alive.
In this undisturbed temple a presence can be seen,
energy increasing tearing out at the seams,
fight back with a fatal stance, and a snake eyed glance,
low percentage chance, just so he can f*ck you again.
You know your days a numbered, its all that you can think,
always edging closer, they pass by with a blink,
even when defeated the evil can return,
with your life thrown down to the pyre your soul is left to burn.
Break me down, this cancer grows inside,
it makes me paralysed, the reaper takes his scythe,
I’m way too young to die, it’s eating me alive.
Waiting for the day.
A treatment for the damned.
Breaking me down, this is pointless.
Breaking me down, this is hopeless.
I can feel it in my veins.
Break me down, this cancer grows inside,
it makes me paralysed, the reaper takes his scythe,
I’m way too young to die, it’s eating me alive.
F*cking waste of time.
